Wisdom Wednesday

“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.” -- Napoleon Hill

 Fall Look Book, Sosie

There has never been a more perfect time to do what you want to do than now. Never a more perfect time to start something you've been putting off than now. There has never been a more perfect time to stop waiting and start doing. If you wait too long, you'll miss the moment. But, you already know this. You know all of this. So, what are you waiting for?

Sea And The Rock Below Cocked To The Undertow

Bon Iver & St. Vincent - Roslyn

Ever since I moved into the city, I have been on a mission to revisit and explore every nook and cranny of it. Truth be told, the first two months I failed miserably at going out and taking advantage of my new surroundings. Now that October is right around the corner, I have trained myself to slowly spend more time out. Shockingly enough, my grandma-self has been seen around town on weeknights even. While it is still difficult for me to go out during the week and stay out past my 10pm bedtime, I've come to the conclusion that there is no point to live in a beautiful city, such as San Francisco, if I'm not going to be a true San Franciscan. This means: going out to grab a bite, enjoying a happy hour after work (even though all I want to do is jump into bed right after I get off), attending events and meeting great people, and revisiting all of the SF sites I haven't been to since I was a child. Luckily for me, I have awesome friends who don't mind spending time with me to do the aforementioned activities. This past Saturday, I spent the day with Alex N. We snapped photos at the Sutro Baths (along with the other 50 people who did the same), enjoyed afternoon lattes and sweets in the Filmore, and had a relaxing sushi dinner in the Mission. Interestingly enough, I actually spend a lot of time driving around the city for my job. But, I have to say it's much nicer when you can spend time driving around the city with a friend.

On a side note, I'm pretty excited about all the upcoming posts I have in store for ya, so definitely don't stray too far away this week. In the meantime, I'm going to figure out why the picture quality on blogger is awful. Might have to consider flickr or photobucket... hmmm...

A couple weeks ago, I attended SF's Fashion's Night Out in the city. I hopped from Neiman's to Macy's to Saks and enjoyed all the festivities that each store had to offer. While each store brought something of its own, my favorite was definitely Saks and their partnership with Stylist and a few of my favorite bloggers, including Kathleen of Inspirafashion and Anh of 9 to 5 Chic. The atmosphere there was wonderful - people were so friendly and everyone looked amazing (without trying too hard, and believe me there were some people out that night who looked like they were trying wayyy too hard). It was great running into old buddies and making new ones. I only wish that I had more time to dress up and not look like a tired mess (note: this is what happens when you work from 8 to 6 and don't have time to run home and change when you get off). I'm definitely enjoying living in the city and being able to attend more events and meeting some of the interesting people that live here. This week, I'll be running around to a few more events, so definitely stay tuned for those posts, and I'll be giving you a little sneak peek into my new digs. I'm hoping to get you some outfit posts soon, as I realllllly miss shooting. Anyone want to play photographer for me?? Super serious question. That's all for now! Hope you all have a fabulous Monday and a great start to your week.

Food Friday: The Brixton

The Brixton 2140 Union Street

After Saturday's Gap Event, Cindy, Ashley and I decided to fill our hungry tummies. Entranced by its beautiful black interior and cute mason jars (yes, we were really hooked on their table settings), we decided to dine at The Brixton on Union Street. Upon first glance of the menu, I have to be honest when I say I was skeptical that anything I ordered would fill me up. As you know, I'm not really a salad kind of gal. I go for hearty dishes that will leave me feeling satisfied. So, it was funny when Cindy asked me, "What are you going to have," because 90% of the menu's choices were salads! Without sounding horribly stereotypical, we all had a little laugh and weren't so surprised because, after all, we were in the Marina. But, alas, my skeptical mind was proven wrong and I felt incredibly satisfied after ordering the Cornmeal Fried Chicken Salad. A little bit of an oxymoron that is, right? Fried Chicken Salad?? But, boy was it delicious. Tender and fresh, the chicken was almost as good as mom's. The Brixton is perfect place to grab a drink with friends on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I'll definitely be back for their happy hour AND to try their "demoned eggs." Added plus? They were playing Murray and Nadal's US Open Tennis match as we ate and I had a perfect view of the screen.

Cindy's Miso Yellowfin Ahi Tuna Salad: Mixed baby greens, seaweed salad, cucumber, cherry tomato, shaved red onion & edamame drizzled with ginger-white soy sauce vinaigrette.
My Cornmeal Fried Chicken Salad: Skinless, seasoned fried chicken thigh over chopped romaine, green bean, cherry tomatoes, sliced watermelon radish & tossed with a jalapeno, bacon buttermilk dressing.

Wisdom Wednesday

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you'll never ever have enough." --Oprah

"The Golden Hour" Look book, Planet Blue

Is it too late for a Wisdom Wednesday post? Never! I stumbled upon this quote a couple times earlier this week and took it as a sign that I needed to listen to it. It seems to me that this week, thus far, has been filled with a lot of "The grass is always greener" talk. From, "Oh, things could be better," to "I'd love to trade places with you!" I can't help but take a moment to snap myself back into reality and be thankful for where I am in my life at this moment in time and just embrace every part of it. Of course, we all have aspirations, and I, for one, am a full advocate of always, always striving for your dreams and never, ever settling. At the same time, I think it is important to take a moment every single day and say to yourself, "How lucky am I that this is my life? Very." Really, I do. I mean, even if things are awful and you desperately want things to change, don't forget how many people wouldn't wait a second to be where you are. Don't ever forget how lucky you are just to be here, wherever "here" is in your life. There's always room to grow and happiness is relative. If you want to be happy - be. How can you be happy with more, if you aren't happy with what you have now? Whatever comes next is always icing on the cake. What you have now is your cake. So, darlings, have your cake and eat it, too.  Of course, you don't have to tell me twice. You know how I love my cake.

Thanks to all my readers for bearing with me and my poor blogging schedule. I'm really trying to get back on track, because writing and hearing from you all really makes my day. I mean it. Whether I'm meeting you IRL at an event, getting a little tweet from you, or just reading your thoughtful comments on a recent post - I genuinely consider everything that has come with blogging to be such a wonderful part of my life. Friday's post is one you've missed - Food Friday, and next week's posts will be a couple more events, a little more wisdom, and finally, getting back to those outfit posts. I hope today's Wisdom Wednesday was enjoyable. And, as usual, don't be afraid to share some of your own with me below.

Gap + InStyle SF Event

Me, Cindy, and Ashley
The yummiest chicken, bacon, and tomato sandwiches - definitely went back a few times for these!
The beautiful Anh of 9 to 5 Chic!
The SOFTEST sweater ever. Bought this beauty in a more neutral color. Can't wait to show you!
The heaviest September Issue ever, haha.
Refreshing drinks for serious shoppers!
This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Gap and InStyle's celebration event for the new Fall Premium Pants Collection featuring Anh of 9 to 5 Chic and Jennie of Jennie Going West. It was a great event filled with delicious hors d'oeuvres, refreshing drinks, stylish clothes, and fun friends. I attended with Cindy and Ashley, which made the day even more enjoyable. Everyone enjoyed 35% each item, which was perfect, since I desperately needed some staples for work. I left with a new pair of soft-rose colored pants, a crisp blazer, and the softest sweater known to man (pictures of these items coming up in upcoming outfit posts).

Side note - I do have to tell you about a funny story from that day. So, as I was checking out, I got a cashier who apparently didn't know how to ring ... anything. He incorrectly charged me for all my items, and when he went to void the transaction, he couldn't find it! 20 minutes and THREE different managers later, my transaction still wasn't able to be voided or refunded back to my card. Finally, they were able to somehow "fix" my transaction, but the whole situation made me extremely nervous for my credit card. After my unfortunate check-out experience, Cindy, Ashley and I decided to grab some lunch with our bags full of goodies and the heaviest September Issue ever made. After 10 minutes of walking in the scorching heat,  it happened - my shopping bag broke! Talk about embarrassing! A series of unfortunate events. Ah, it happens. Was it a sign from some outside force that I shouldn't have spent all that money on some new fall clothing? Let's hope not because I am madly in love with my new work clothes.

In other news, my lion's mane is getting ridiculously long. I'm in desperate need for a new hairdo. Seriously. At lunch, my hair got caught in the zipper of my bag not once, but twice. TWICE. How that even happens is beyond me, but hey...things happen. Anyone have any suggestions?? And by suggestions I mean, for a new hair style, ha! Chop it off? Leave it long? Who knows. But I am open to your thoughts!
